Meeting their future-selves wasn’t supposed to feel this... wrong. It was supposed to be simple proof that they’d be fine without their fairies. But after yet another weird, loaded glance between future Dev and Hazel, regular Dev snapped.
“There!” He jabbed a finger between them. “That’s exactly what I’m talking about! You're both acting shifty, like you’re hiding something! Just admit it-you’re not even friends anymore, and you’re faking it to keep us from freaking out!”
"Alright!" Peri finally cracked, clapping his hands between them. “They’re here, alive—that’s all we need to know, right? This future stuff already has me on edge; let’s just wrap it up...”
Dev was about to protest again when he noticed Hazel freeze beside him.
Her eyes were caught on future Hazel's hand as it brushed a lock of hair behind her ear. “That finger… You’re…”
“What?” Dev followed her stare, confused, but Hazel’s expression said it all. She pointed between their future selves, her jaw dropping.
“Wait a second… are you guys married?!”
And with that, two rings and all hell broke loose.

Summary
The next moment her brother does something Nat finds strange: he raises a fist up to his chest and he rubs small circles over it one, two, three times then just rests it there over his ribcage, lingering.
Equally strange is how Syd seems to not only understand the gesture, but repeats it back to him, then the pair just stare silently at one another, having another wordless conversation only the two of them are privy to.
Suddenly, Nat feels as if she is seeing something she’s not supposed to, like she’s intruding. She feels like she should look away, but she’s too intrigued by this discovery she’s stumbled upon to do so.

"Again, their breath moves together, only instead of a sigh of relief it holds still, caught in their throats. They seem to both acknowledge a door half-open, a window just cracked. Sometimes it’s like this—working on the Bear, talking about Mikey when they have to, when they mention the money or the inspiration or the afternoons Carmen has to plan around in order to attend the AL meetings.
They are always on the edge of talking about it. Sometimes Carm feels it like a lighter, finger pressed down flat, letting all the gas out, never making a spark. It never catches, it never burns, but it’s there, fucking up the ozone layer or some shit like that. He’s always fucking up something."
OR: After months of hard work, The Bear is nearing opening, with a inaugural write-up in the Tribune to go with it. The only problem is: Carmy can't talk about the restaurant without talking about Mikey, and he can't talk about Mikey without talking about himself.
