Eddie’s eyes narrowed. “Someone.”
Buck nodded emphatically. “Someone. A very small someone.”
Eddie did not move. He did not blink. He did not give Buck an inch of space to start running. “Buck.”
“Eddie.”
“I am going to say this once,” Eddie warned, voice low, “and then I am going to say it again, louder, when you pretend you didn’t hear me. We are not getting a cat.”

Summary
"Who's that?” Chimney asks all of a sudden, half startling Ravi who didn’t know Chim had been eyeing his phone this entire time.
Buck and Chimney are sitting on either side of Ravi in the upstairs lounge area, winding down in between calls, scrolling their phones, eating popcorn that was left from the LAFD summer picnic the week before.
”Paul Baker”. Ravi explains, a bit offended at Chimney’s lack of boundaries.
”Wow, he looks like he could be yours and Eddie’s son”. Chimney, ignoring Ravi’s tone, looks over to Buck.
Eddie and Hen, sitting in the chairs next to the couch opposite each other, both stand up and walk over to look at Ravi’s phone.
Eddie scoffs. ”That’s not even biologically possible”.OR

“My mom said, uh, that his name was Buck. That he was going to go to the fire academy and that he had a—” she broke off, rubbing her own forehead, exactly where his skin went pink. “She said he went by Firehose.”
Buck didn’t need all of his coworkers to look at him in alarm; he was pretty sure he’d gone deadly pale. His daughter knew four things about him, and one of them was his old tinder profile handle. He felt a little like he was going to die.
“She’s got your eyes,” Eddie commented, unhelpfully.

Summary
“Hey there sweetheart,” Buck says softly to the baby as he adjusts his grip so that she’s resting against his chest. “You’re okay. We’ve got you now.”
The screaming seems to die down the smallest amount.
“I know you’re scared, and you’re probably really confused, huh?” Buck walks her around in a small circle in front of the baby box, bouncing her ever so slightly. “Don’t you worry though, you’re safe here with us. And we’re gonna get you somewhere even safer once the nice DCFS people show up.”
The screaming ever so slowly comes to an almost full stop, little whimpers still escaping her tiny body every now and then.
“That’s it,” Buck encourages her with a smile. “You’re being so brave. Look at you go!”

This is not a fic. Just a character analysis I threw together in a few days because Eddie Diaz is the character of all time and deserves so much love. I know it doesn’t cover everything but I really wanted to focus in on how his upbringing has brought him to where he is today and how it impacts his worldview and relationships with others.
