Summary
Life's been a little wild since everything went to shit about five years ago. I mean, Earth isn't even habitable at this point, so you know. Wild.
Actually, let's go back to where this started. The actual storyline of Basebound, where fankids and fantrolls have a grand ol' time and rebel against an intergalactic overlord and lose some parents in the process.

Summary
It’s Dave, again. What, is he not working today? “Hello, why are you calling me for the second time in the middle of my 12 hour shift.” Karkat phrased it less like a question and more like a deadpan statement, just to show how unsurprised he is by this development.
“Oh, no reason. I mean, Rose just texted me about adopting a grub, have you talked to Kan recently?”
Karkat sighed. “Literally two seconds ago.”
“That’s why, okay,” Dave paused for a moment, but continued, “What did she say?”

Summary
Speaking of noticing things, you notice that there are several more grubs in the sandbox next to you than there used to be. Not an issue. Your youngest is blue (indigo, so you’ve been told), so obviously just look for the blue one.
There are two blue ones.
Okay, so maybe you’re an awful parent or maybe you’re xenophobic, but you really can’t tell the difference between grubs by anything besides horns. Maybe teeth, if they happen to have wild teeth.
Part of "Basebound," a long as hell AU where I make up fankids and everyone has a great time.

Summary
“Hey,” you turn to Karkat, who was in the middle of pouring a mug of coffee (the mug said “world’s okayest nursing student,” a gift you got him last year), “do you want to go get dinner?”
“It’s 3 in the afternoon.”
“Well, not now, of course. But when’s the last time we’ve gone out?”
Karkat considers your statement for a moment before shrugging. “We don’t usually have time between classes and work.”
“Exactly!” You kind of really like this idea.

Summary
Dave gets quiet for a second, and when he keeps talking, his voice is quieter. “So, I just moved out of my old apartment like last week.”
You look at him, perplexed.
“Like, I don’t live with Bro anymore. Dirk and I moved a little farther out of the city. It’s a dingy little apartment that reminds me of the apartments from that Zootopia movie, you know. It has the same symbolic energy like ‘everything sucks but change is around the corner.’ I mean, there’s at least paint on the walls, but still.”

Summary
“Could you imagine the marketing for that show? It’s just flowers and plants and ‘new love blooms’ and bullshit taglines like that. You’d see one commercial and end up binging the whole thing. Because you’re a sucker for bullshit taglines.” You scowl at him. He grins and leans closer to your face. “You’re a sucker.”
You push him off the counter and he falls with a squeak.
this is a background story for my au that i've written a LOT about and i figured people would enjoy the little shorts i have written for it :)
