"Most people look at colors, but I prefer fractals." There must have been a puzzled expression on his face, because as soon as Eva looks at him, she adds a comment. "Think of a specific pattern that repeats itself in the same body at different scales, that's a fractal."
"I can see why someone with your talent might be so interested in something like a feather."
Eva seems to analyze his comment more than she should. In the end, her response sounds much more natural than the motionless expression on her face. "You don't have to like mathematics to be able to admire nature."

"And they think you're just a bad person for speaking your mind? It doesn't make sense." Her pout deepens, less immature more desperate. Her eyes gloss up, not in tears. Never in tears, he's noticed. The corpse didn't even elect that kind of emotional range for her.
Truthfully, the whole thing stings for him. This alienation made sense back home; they couldn't match his intellect, his skills. They weren't Ultimates. But to see folk like him turn against him was a whole other level of hurt. For people with such pride, they leverage that on the vague murmers of feeling good, not protecting themselves. No wonder that mysterious liar woman had a point.
"They're stubborn," he condenses. "If they don't get it now, they're never going to get it."
