“Don’t you dare,” Nesta hissed, and she offered Elain one final glare, filled with an equal amount of pleading. She couldn’t fathom the thought of Feyre knowing her secret, she couldn’t bear the thought of them knowing. Not the full extent of what had happened, what had changed her well before the Cauldron-
“Father sold Nesta when she was 16.”
When Nesta's deepest secret is revealed at yet another tense dinner, she was sent into a spiral, desperate to escape before Feyre demanded answers. But it isn't her sister who comes to find her in the aftermath, it's someone else. Someone who might have more in common with her than she ever thought.

Amongst the writhing bodies, Cassian spots her. Scarlet cami, hair like honey. He watches her for too long, the way her hips move to a rhythm nobody else quite seems to get like she does, the length of her ponytail as it swings to and fro.
When she turns and meets his eyes, he’s a goner. And at the end of night, when he backs her into his apartment, he realises quickly that whoever this girl is, she takes what she wants and he’ll take what he can get.

Now, in that study at the river estate, Cassian looked down at the female who would be staying with him for the near future. At the eyes that had drained of fire at the sound of her sisters words and were now nothing but hollow, unseeing.
“You’re coming with me to the Illyrian Mountains,” he told her.
Those steel blue eyes bore into his, unblinking. He waited for the retort, for the snide remark that would send him reeling but it didn’t come.
Somehow, that was worse. It meant that the situation was far graver than any of them had realised.

Summary
Nesta Archeron isn't good with change. When her car breaks down in the middle of a storm and her sister sends one of her friends to pick her up, Nesta thinks there could be nothing worse than having to spend the night with a total stranger. Until she suddenly finds herself without an apartment. Despite only a night of knowing Nesta, Cassian is quick to offer her a room in his cabin free of charge, and Nesta, broke and without many social contacts, has no choice but to accept.
