Sam managed to Save Dean and Dean is (NOT) coming to terms with life after the final showdown, after losing Cas, and losing something he never knew he wanted. Not consciously, at least.
Jack realizes that Cas is awake but trapped in the empty and he has a plan. For some reason, he thinks that Dean is the only person for the job. To rescue Cas, Dean must traverse the Empty via his subconscious which happens to look a lot like Star Trek TNG.
Dean!Geordi / Cas!Data .
You do not need to be a trekkie to get this story. If you're not, firstly, why not? Secondly, you should know that Geordi is a blind guy who wears a visor to allow him differently-abled vision and Data is an android.
