Summary
It’s been a long few months since Sam left for Stanford, but Dean is coping. Mostly. Sure, he drinks too much and sleeps too little and clings a little too hard to what he has left (as much as Dad will let him, anyway), but what else is new? Throwing himself headfirst into every case he can find is the perfect distraction from all his lingering feelings of abandonment and loss.
Then Dean gets wind of a trail of bloodless, blissed-out bodies—most of which bear a nauseating resemblance to himself. It’s just a coincidence, Dad dismisses over the phone. But as Dean works the case solo, each step leads him closer and closer to Palo Alto, where he finds that Sam has been missing since October.
It seems as though the monster’s choice in vics wasn’t coincidental at all—and Dean can’t use the case as a distraction anymore when everything he's been avoiding is at the epicenter.
