His chest tightened hard enough to knock the air out of him. Not pain—something worse. Something instinctive. His hand curled against his knee without permission, fingers digging into fabric. Every sense sharpened violently, as if the world had been stripped down to edges and heat and that single presence standing three strides away.
This wasn’t attraction. He knew attraction. This was not want.
This was recognition.
His body leaned forward before he told it to stop.
