Summary
Osamu Dazai is fine with his routine (mundane) day-to-day life as a barista who owns his own coffee shop. He works the graveyard shift while using spare time to work on a novel that's been a work in progress for nearly ten years. He's burnt out, tired, and missing the creative pieces that would propel his novel (and personal satisfaction) to new heights.

He’s sat on the floor, slumped over a still unpacked box, face like thunder, when the door swings open. A flash of orange greets him in his peripheral, and for a second he does a cartoon-style double take. Is that a girl? It can’t be a girl. Surely they don’t have mixed gender student accommodation at Todai. It doesn’t seem that progressive here.
