    Summary

The Calamity ended and Ganon defeated, she finds herself back where it all started.
She trades one battle for another.

When she looks up again he’s just looking at her. A faint gleam in his eyes he tries to will away as soon as she meets them. The faintest smile curling his lips. There was a time she didn’t know what that meant. When she’d ramble over something ancient or concentrate on the day’s task and he saw something in her that made it so hard to hide a face he almost never made. Because he was a man who didn’t have those. Who didn’t feel those. And she’d only learned what that meant when she’d felt it too and then they were a pair composed of feeling, seeing. Touching, holding.
That was before. Before the end. This is now. Is there a ‘now?’ Is there a ‘they?’
There was a before. There will never be a ‘before’ ever again.
    And it’s all her fault.
“I’ll fix it,” she says. “I promise.”

He doesn't know who he is. But he knows what she wants. Maybe...maybe it's what he wants, too.

"Our current working relationship. It's—it's not sufficient," he says. "Not to me."
It's surreal, seeing the changes her expression undergoes. The way her eyes shift from disbelief, to shock, to something unadulterated but quiet all at once. Her lips part a little as she looks at him, all the muscles soft on her face. A new energy brimming just beneath the surface.
"And this is what you want?" she says, her voice shaky, a tinge of uncertainty there.
    "Yes."
Relief flashes over her for the briefest second. Rolls through her body like a sudden chill, he can see it. Her hands clasp at her lips and she seems to think for a little longer. Processing. Then she looks at him again.
"Well...I suppose we should clean up, then."

(A work exploring an apology, a lie, and the boy connecting the two. Or, alternatively, how to get far, far more than you bargained for.)

    ‘I’m sorry. It’s my fault.’

The thorns constrict, and Zelda holds her roses tighter.

She resents him. She’s always resented him.

But this time, it’s just because he’d taken the words right out of her mouth.

' "You want what you always want, don't you? You want volleyball," Hinata says. "I'm—I understand that better than anyone, Kageyama. I really wish I could feel that way, too, but I get it—"

"Of course I want volleyball!" Kageyama says. "I'll always want volleyball, that's never going to change! But two years ago, it's all I had! It's all I cared about, because I didn't have anything else."

Of course he loves volleyball more than anything else. But more than anyone else? He's not stupid. Hinata isn't a thing, a sport, a concept.

Hinata is the most important focus Kageyama's ever had in his life.

"But now I have you!" he yells, furious.'

    --

Kageyama has gotten much better at understanding Hinata, but he's still working out just how much Hinata cares about him.

' "It's you. I can… smell you," Hinata said, a little awed, and Tobio realized the reverse was true as well. Whatever he was smelling, that hot, smoky scent—that was Hinata.

Tobio bowed his head to rest his cheek against Hinata’s forehead, breathing deep inhales of his skin. He had never done this before, never. Not only because of the enormous breach of social conduct, in casually letting a Wolf who had professed no interest in courting him scent a Lamb like him this way; but also because he had never met one who had ever found his scent pleasing.

    Hinata thought he smelled good?'

    --

There was a little village where a Wolf smith kept a forge,
And a Lamb with hair as black as night came one day through its doors.

The smith was kind, his smile was bright, like iron shaped by fire,
And the Lamb felt for the first time a strange yearning, a desire.
