Based on the many times Frank had been curt with him, looked at him with indifference, or—most of all—because he had harbored a crush on the guy since the very first time he walked into their room. Yes, out of the five thousand students that college could have, the universe would always find a cosmic way to screw Gerard over by making him Frank’s roommate.
