Summary
Kageyama couldn’t for the life of him guess what he’d been doing to get so goddamn beat up, but it was there, and the guy wasn’t even taking care of any of it. The pain was making it hard to concentrate during class, making it hard to think at all, and that plus the boy’s overenthusiastic emotions were putting Kageyama in a particularly sour mood, so he really couldn’t be blamed when he snapped something sarcastic at the teacher and got detention in response.
alternatively titled: in which kageyama, an empath whos still just as socially inept as ever, ends up having a gay crisis because hinata cant stop getting hurt.

After the first time, which is gross and uncomfortable, it starts to feel good, to make Kageyama feel like this is okay even if he can't do it with Hinata, will never work up the courage to tell Hinata that he loves his eyes and his smile and his stupid face.

Maybe he’d join the track and field club, where fast guys were appreciated and there were no real teams. Sure, it wouldn’t be as fulfilling as duking it out with teammates, but, hey, he’d actually have a chance at being good at it and-

-and he turned his head just in time to watch another boy fly. The loud slap of the ball hitting the other side of the court rattled his bones. He came to a full stop next to the video store and watched the boy, who jumped and jumped and jumped, no matter how tall the wall. He watched as the final set closed down, as 170 cm proved greater than 190 cm again and again, as the points were racked up under the number 10, cloaked in black and flying like the crow emblazoned on his uniform. He watched the boy bound across the court and swore he saw feathers.
His chest was tight. He watched the game unfold as if in a trance, and his mother’s words from years and years ago came to mind.
“Shouyou means ‘to soar’.”

Honestly, Hinata's glad he hasn't presented yet. It seems more hassle than it's worth, leads to friends acting weird, tells you who you can and can't date, has people sneering down their nose based on whether or not they think you fit. Kageyama's reputation still precedes him, lending jeers and whispers about the nature of his presentation. They say he's possibly the most insufferable alpha ever to walk the grounds; he's the reason they have a bad reputation.

Shenanigans involve, but are not limited to Bokuto and Kuroo mourning deeply over a broken waffle-maker, Asahi making pillow forts with Noya at 2am, Hinata and Kenma teaching Kageyama how to not scare off children with his face, and Suga teaching Daichi firsthand how to tastefully grind at a club.
