The idea of a modern AU based on this trilogy had been floating around in my head for a while. I’ve taken a few creative liberties and introduced the odd character who isn’t part of the series. Other than that, I hope you enjoy it.

He was growing used to this, mornings with the two of them, soft and warm. Jordan pushes her fingertips gently back into Declan’s hair, a light and repeated motion he never used to think he liked. She takes a deep and steady breath next to him, which reminds him to breathe deeply, too. He shifts to fit their legs together, sheets warm underneath him, blankets positioned just so.
He feels as though he could melt, if he wanted to. It would be safe. He’s learning about rest. He says, “Okay.”
