The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

Summary
A travelling circus has come to the city.
Between running the library and fixing her sleep schedule, Edith doesn't have the luxury of getting excited at the idea of possibly going. Emphasis on 'possibly' because the tickets were stupidly expensive.
Since the circus arrived, the streets have been littered with flyers and performers. And since then, someone who introduced himself as 'Jester' has been making daily trips to the library. Edith usually wouldn't think much of it if she didn’t sense that there was something peculiar with him—no, all of them.
Her superstitious neighbors were probably rubbing off on her. Or maybe she's read too much fiction. His lingering gaze on her, like he was studying the very depths of her soul, certainly wasn't helping.
She tries to play it cool, convincing herself it was just nothing. That the circus will leave soon enough.
Except...the circus doesn't seem to want to leave her alone. Nor let her go.
And for some reason, Edith doesn't want them to.

She climbed onto the stage while the Jester was directing his Fool assistants. She crept up silently, like a shadow, and with all her might, hugged his leg.
— Mommy! Your performance was beautiful! You were gorgeous, I love you, Mommy! — she blurted out and held out a broom made of half-wilted wildflowers.
The Jester turned his head so slowly that Katherine almost heard the creak of his neck vertebrae. He stared at the pitiful bouquet, then at the beaming Katherine. A silence fell over the tent that could be cut with a knife. -

Summary
Some monsters are known to have a rare gene, this rare gene causes their bodies to look extremely human. But if they get exposed to the company of other monsters, they will start to get horrible headaches, their teeth with ache and gums will bleed, they'll grow taller. At some point after, their teeth will fall out to be replaced with fangs, their sclerae will shift from white to pitch black, they'll grow horns, and potentially animal ears and a tail.
Unfortunately for poor Ezra, he happens to be one of these special cases. Yet he never knew about it, that was until he came across a newly arrived circus in town...
Who knew these people would reveal something in him he didn't know existed.
