Summary
An eternal winter isn't exactly the quickest form of divine wrath to go out by, and when nothing else seems to appease the angry goddess in the forest around your kingdom, a human sacrifice seems like a sound idea. Such is the fate of Edward Elric, prince of Xerxes, forced by the Royal Council to go into the frozen woods and wait for death.
Death, however, doesn't find him. The goddess he's there to appease...well, that's another story entirely.
Or: Ed is a prince, Winry is a goddess. Cue odd, potentially life-threatening meet-cute.
