    Bookmarker's Notes

This series is the epitome of VoxVal - in two separate stories the author delves into both of their twisted heads to find out what makes their relationship what it is. Each one takes its name from an important book and somehow I swear the vibes of each book speak volumes about the person each PoV represents. “Wuthering Heights” is about a murderous love, a haunting love - and isn’t that how Val might see a Vox who’s revealed to have murdered/tortured every sinner Val ever invited upstairs? And “Great Expectations” give me the impression of being such a grand old piece of literature when, knowing Dickens, it’s probably rather legible, pedestrian prose. Isn’t that Vox in Val’s eyes in the story? A rather simple man who complicated himself in the name of larger-than-life gestures. The stories explore the backstory to their powerful allegiance, speaking contextually to each other and making for a delicious back-to-back read. In particular, “Wuthering Heights” is a treat for any Val fan - his heart is out in the open in that one, endlessly curious.

All it took was one letter, and Marie was on a plane, bound for Mississippi. Headed back to the life—and to the husband—that she had left behind.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Hands-down the magnum opus of Romy. The story - set within the Movieverse constraints but in no way limited by them considering that any version one chooses to imagine of the characters can still take center stage - follows Marie and Remy as they find their way back to each other on the vehicle of Marie’s father’s death. The portrayals of funerals, southern culture, and adult relationships all ring true and somehow close to what the animated series always placed front and center: a story that doesn’t talk down to the audience but is not overly ornate or difficult to follow. There’s depth and details and world building. Drama for days. And yet these heavy details are there for those who seek them without needing to impede someone who doesn’t. The leads are marvelous as always, orbiting around the universal constant that Remy loves Rogue with all his heart… and so, too, do we love him.

As of the end of this bookmark, I’m patiently awaiting the epilogue.

His shoes are kicked right next to her bunny slippers. But he left his trench on, the brown fabric draped over the side of the bed. The long tail of it is tangled up in her blankets. When she sleeps tonight, it’ll smell like him.

She’s exhausted. Starving. More overwhelmed than she’d been when it set in that the Professor was never coming back, and the X-Men were well and truly on their own. But, somehow…

    She grins.

Missing scene set after Rogue delivers Nathan. In which Rogue has a conversation, a massage, and a Cajun in her bed.

    Bookmarker's Notes

A missing scene set in Season 1 of ‘97 that finds Remy and Rogue bonding as only they can via gloves and hypotheticals. Beautiful prose accompanies a sweet domestic moment that genuinely made me put my phone down and say “he’s too perfect, jeez”. Remy is a godsend sweetheart and Rogue wants so very desperately to be enough.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Fantastic fix-it for the second half of Polin season. Here, Colin’s “I love you” is incorporated into his final declaration, the wedding night is explored, and Colin’s feelings about his wife being Lady Whistledown are articulated remarkably eloquently.

How much trouble can these two get up to in a year?

    ——

It's obscene, watching this, but it was perfect, the way her core spread around him, accepting him with little resistance. The sight makes him pulse and lick his lips before he picks up the pace again, the slap of skin against skin filling the room, "Pen, you should see us, see how good we fit together. It's like you were made for me."

Polin smut through one of the most important years of their lives. Hat’s off to the author for managing 12 completely different, absolutely wonderful vignettes.
