“Oh yes they’re very passionately in love,” Josephine confirmed, her proper aristocratic tone lending heavy weight to the words. “In fact, it’s been quite the stir around Skyhold. I’m surprised it has not flown from these walls before now.”

This wasn’t how it was supposed to go!
She had pictured it, in her head, dozens of times. No, maybe hundreds. And it wasn’t supposed to go like this.

Summary
“Magic can be divided up into two kinds: arcane, that from a caster, and divine, from the realms above and below—. Yes, Cora, you have a question?” Gale dropped his chalk to address his classroom and the raised hand of one of his students.
Cora, a bright girl with a smattering of freckles and her blonde hair tied into braids, dropped her hand, an odd blush on her pale skin. “Erm, i-it’s not exactly about the lesson,” she prefaced, causing a wave to titters amongst her classmates.
“That’s fine.” Gale had vowed not to be like the cantankerous professors he had growing up, vexed by the most innocuous of things such as a pin dropping. “We cannot control the wanderings of a curious mind.”
Cora knitted her fingers together, squirming in her seat. By the hungry gazes of her friends, Gale surmised she had been chosen to be their speaker. “I was just wondering...when is your wife going to visit?”
Like a clap of thunder, all of his students—even Ajax who notoriously slept through most lessons—jerked to attention. Their gazes as one swung towards him awaiting his answer with the kind of anticipation they only showed at the end of the lesson hour.

Summary
“You’re hard to please, aren’t you?”
She turned to look up at him, grinning widely. There was nothing in the world she enjoyed more than taking this posh wizard boy down a peg or several.
Well, almost nothing, she realised, as she saw the expression in his eyes. He’d not looked at her like that before, she was sure of it. Gale’s gaze was kind, always kind - but now it was charged with warmth, affection, anticipation…
***
Imaginings a little beyond canon of Gale's relationship with the player character, who I've called Emrys because I liked the magic connection. Includes the Sorcerer banter because it's just too funny. Obvious spoilers for Gale's plot and romance.

Summary
They had not gotten along, at least at first.
Bal had acquaintances along the Sword Coast but none were wizards. A few fellow sorcerers but most definitely no wizards. By the nine hells did she find them arrogant and, consequently, difficult to get along with.
In her opinion, Gale embodied all the worst traits of wizardkind. The man was pompous, hubristic, and by the gods he never shut up.
-----
Bal hid away from the world for three years in Baldur's Gate to deal with her grief, unfortunately, that didn't save her from being snatched up by the nautiloid. Begrudgingly saddled with the title of leader, she tentatively begins to make friends again, opening her heart to her fellow tadpals, and carving out a special place for Mystra's former Chosen.
But the weight of the Sword Coast's fate rests heavily on her shoulders, and love is not always easy. When further loss and expectations take their toll, she flees from the one she cherishes most, unable to handle that he will pass long before she does.
Time and soul-searching will heal Bal's wounds, but only if she can face her fears and doubts.
