Yuji looked at him. His eyes slowly squinted in confusion.
“Like…” Yuji said. “Bond with you over our mutual love of Pokemon or…?”
“No, idiot,” Fushiguro said, shoving his face down into his collar as his face turned redder. “Like a mating bond.”
Yuji processed the words. Then, his eyes blew wide and his mouth dropped open comically. “Huhhh? Are you messing with me right now? Oh, ha ha, funny, Fushiguro. I thought we were being serious.”
“I am being serious.”

Or, Megumi is stuck in the Zenin Clan and doomed to a miserable life there forever. Yuji is the vessel of Sukuna and approaching his inevitable execution. Both have little to lose when they strike up a deal---form a bond so that Megumi can escape the control of the alphas in his clan, and in return he'll watch over Yuji's loved ones after Yuji is executed.
It was purely transactional. No feelings involved.
Because falling in love would makes things complicated.

Summary
Yuuji Itadori is a rising boxing star. Megumi Fushiguro is a journalist with little interest in boxing; in fact, he doesn't know much about the sport. But the agency he works for seems interested in the spotlight surrounding this boxer.
But why are they sending him? Now he has to study the sport to get an interview with this guy who, by the way, he doesn't even know.

Megumi has to fall in love with boxing and ends up falling in love with the boxer

“You don't do anything halfway, do you, kid?” Gris said.
“Is it high?” Rudo asked.
“Kid, you've got a 103-degree fever. Yes, that's high.”
“Oh.”
Enjin sighed, tucking Rudo in. “Alright, here's the plan, Rudo. Gris brought some medicine for you. Take it, and then you're going to get some sleep. Eisha will check you out when she gets back.”
Rudo groaned. He did not want to see Eisha. He hated the med bay.
That got a chuckle out of Gris and Enjin. “You need to see her, kid,” Enjin said.
“I hate the med bay,” he mumbled.
Gris helped Rudo take the pills with some water and then coaxed him under the covers, brushing his hair back.
Rudo sighed softly, feeling himself getting sleepy at the sensation of Gris’s hand running through his hair. It was so soothing and comforting; it reminded him of Regto.
“Get some sleep, Rudo,” he heard distantly as he fell asleep.
