Jameson glances at one of the Aurors who edges his way closer.
‘The Ministry seized it when you—’
‘I want my wand,’ he says, and he sounds…tiny. Like a little boy.
‘Look lad, once you’re in the shelter, you can see about getting your wand back,’ the Auror closest to his side says, the badge at his hip glinting.
‘I can’t go there,’ Malfoy says into his knees. ‘Please. Please don’t make me go there.’ I realise he’s crying. That he’s hiding his face to stop them from seeing. That this is the first time I’ve ever heard him say the word please. That he’s scared. That Draco Malfoy is asking for help.
Something shatters inside me and—
‘He can stay with me.’

Summary
In the midst of war, Draco Malfoy appears on the doorstep of n#12 Grimmauld Place seeking sanctuary, but Hermione Granger (hiding a dark secret) is emphatic: they cannot trust him.

Hermione Granger is one of the few Muggle-borns left in England, cursed with a burden she is forced to carry alone.
Draco Malfoy is a traitor to his kind and seeking retribution for the person he used to be. He wants to fight.
Alongside a Horcrux-free Harry Potter (burdened with the knowledge that he failed to do the one thing he was supposed to), a chaos gremlin Theo Nott (a Death Eater spy for The Order) and a poisoned Neville Longbottom (who tries to make himself useful wherever he can (after having the glow up of the century)), Hermione & Draco spend their days fighting to survive, fighting for the small moments of light that flicker through the darkness, fighting to bring down the Dark Lord the only way they know how: with an unhealthy degree of reckless, misplaced self-confidence.
