Summary
For the first time, Lucas realises that none of them had ever really talked to Will about the Upside Down. He’s sure Joyce had tried, but Will always tried to protect his mother and brother, always felt like he was a burden on a family that was barely scraping together as it was, backs bending with the strain of giving Will some semblance of a good childhood. Lucas and Max had had each other, Dustin had had Steve, and Mike and Eleven had protected each other best they could.
Will, though… had never really had anyone. Once again, Lucas feels his heart twist in guilt over how they’d treated Will the summer before last, the summer after he’d been possessed.

“Doesn’t this seem… illegal?” Mike asked as he climbed through the window and onto the couch, which had remained untouched during the incident.
Will dropped onto the cushion beside Mike. “Mike, we literally kidnapped an entire family four days ago.”
OR
After the brutal demogorgon attack at the Wheeler house, Mike and Will are forced to take shelter in the attic of the WSQK. Boredom arises, and the two sneak out, leading to some not-so-fun conversations.

“Also, I’m sorry about messing up your lie about the painting. Mike thanked me for it, and I gave it away because I was clueless about it. I would have tried to keep it up if I knew.”
There’s a sudden ringing in Will’s ears before everything seems to get too loud and too quiet at the same time. The A/C’s soft hum has become an absolutely deafening thrumming in his brain, but so has the silence that engulfs him. Will’s knees are on the verge of giving up on him and he worries he might topple over, but he’s also too stiff to even move.
Will is still trying to catch his breath but needs to be sure. He needs to be sure he’s hearing this right.
“El. El, what do you mean—,” he slowly blinks and tries to breathe but still struggles, “What do you mean,” he swallows, “you messed up my lie about the painting?”
or
the painting lie is no longer a secret and Will has to navigate his escape from Mike

Until this moment, Mike hadn’t realized that he was falling for Will Byers. He had known he was on the mountain; could see the snow, could feel the ground rumble beneath his feet; but he still hadn’t been expecting it, the avalanche, a furious white blinding all he could see.
