    Like many of us, I was mad how Steve's departure was written and also about the reasons why he left. I wouldn't call my story a fix it, more a sequel to the series finale. Except in my version, there is no CR involved. This and some changes in general lead to the canon divergence. I am going to offer you a different point of view on why Steve left and why he stayed away for one and a half years. When Steve returns, he returns to Jersey because, during his absence, a lot of things have changed. Mainly in Danny's life but also in Steve's. This story deals with the aftermath of the finale (which is also slightly different from the OV). Enjoy the ride. There will be a lot to digest.

    “Goddammit.” Danny grumbled as he forced himself out of bed cursing his insane partner and himself for not realising that something was off with him. The entire day Steve had been quiet, downtrodden, and had barely left his own office willingly filling out his paperwork with a precision that he did not usually apply to regular office paperwork. His first clue really should have been the fact that he had driven his own car, his own car, and how quiet the drive had been as there was no usual banter that the two had developed. Dammit how did I miss that, he thought even as he pulled on a pair of sweatpants and a loose t-shirt then shoved his feet into a pair of sneakers before he grabbed his keys, wallet, phone, gun and badge.
