Summary
The both of them are immediately alert in anticipation of an order, furrowed brows and eyes scanning him for signs of dangers. Zuko flounders for a moment before the words bubble and spill out of him without his permission.
“Can I…” he said, volume drifting into nothingness as he realizes what he is doing. “Can I have a hug?”
The shame crushes him but it doesn’t hurt as much as the loneliness or the want or the patheticness, and that is the only reason Zuko does not slam the door and bury himself six feet under.
There is an awful, stretching silence that makes his stomach bile rise. Reo and Jon blink at him, surprise and confusion and probably disgust written clearly across their faces. Zuko shrinks back, his mind a cacophony of regret.
Zuko understands fundamentally that no one wants to hug him. That is a truth that is ingrained in his flesh and bone. But he had thought… at least it was an order, right? It was their job at least—they were paid to tolerate him and to return to their lives at the end of the day. So, it wouldn’t be anything to do with want when it came to them hugging him, right?
__
In other words, Zuko really, really needs a hug.

Summary
“I said kneel.”
Loki felt the words vibrate down to his bones. What–? Any biting retort that would have made it past the gag was cut off by a searing pain. It radiated from his head and spread through his entire body— a feeling of corrupting agony that multiplied tenfold the longer he failed to act. It was unbearable.
Loki lurched forward involuntarily, vision blurred with tears of blood. Norns, please, it hurt. Loki’s body collapsed of its own accord, legs unable to support his weight. His knees hit unfeeling marble, and he took a gulping breath as his mind instantly cleared.
The loss of pain was an enormous relief— until it hit him. He couldn’t place it at first— the warmness spreading in his chest and threatening to bubble up. A feeling so foreign, yet familiar and pleasant and bright… Happy. He was happy.
Bile splattered on marble floors, blood and misery and happiness at the foot of the Allfather.
