She's in the middle of spamming the camera button with Ena posed facing the sunset when she hears a sniffle behind her. Somewhere in the back of her mind, it registers how close it feels, but she doesn't think to turn until there's a light tug on her skirt.
Jumping in the opposite direction of the sensation, she turns, flailing. "Wo-ho-ho-hoah, buddy! At least take me to... dinner..."
The words die on her tongue. She looks down. Oh.

A lost child appears during one of Ena's mall dates with Mizuki. This is easily the second worst way a day with her girlfriend has ever been ruined.

Back to square one, Ena thinks bitterly. She truly has not missed the times when Mizuki would act like a skittish animal around whom Ena had to walk on eggshells in fear it would bolt, never to be seen again. This isn’t the same, not really, but it’s close enough to make Ena uncomfortable. To be fair to Mizuki, she had warned Ena, that time in the alley. She had said something along the lines of, “I might get scared again, so what’s the point?”
Well, Ena had been willing to cross that bridge once they came to it, and now here they are. And Ena isn’t letting go. If Mizuki’s scared, Ena will slay her monsters. If Mizuki wants to run, Ena will chase her.
She nods to herself, and picks up her phone.(or: how I just wanted to write a little spicy fic for my tumblr moots and followers and ended up with a 30k+ character analysis full of fluff and light angst and only incidentally smutty. ack. send help)

Ena Shinonome is tired. She’s burning out behind the scenes but still thriving online, running a cute little vlog channel built from years of effort — gorgeous aesthetics, relatable rants, and carefully edited clips. But her steady rise is suddenly overshadowed by an overnight gaming sensation: Akiyama Mizuki.
With chaotic energy, glitchy edits, and flamboyant confidence, Mizuki’s channel blows up with ease, while Ena quietly spirals into jealousy and self-doubt. It doesn’t help that Mizuki — more than once — has openly called vloggers “lazy content creators.” And it definitely doesn’t help when Ena starts making not-so-subtle digs at “hotshots who’ve never worked for their fame.”
An invite to a major creator event forces them into the same space—another country, a shared hotel, and randomized rooms. While their friends find fun in the chaos, Ena and Mizuki find sharp tension, passive-aggressive tweets, and just a few too many viral moments. But somewhere between the sarcasm, clipped tones, and late-night conversations no one else knows about, their dynamic begins to shift.
Because the worst part of disliking someone is realizing you might want them to understand you more than anyone else. -
