Summary
“Why? Why won’t you ever tell me what’s wrong with you?” Carlton’s voice is filled with frustration, and it sounds like nails on a chalkboard to Will.
What is wrong with him. It’s such a loaded question. Why does Will wake up screaming sometimes? Why can’t Will handle the cold? Why are there days when Carlton’s hands on him feel like being kept under water with no way up?
And why can’t Will tell Carlton the truth? How could Will possibly explain it without sounding insane? What is the human translation for being taken and kept in another dimension, violated, and possessed, only to then be violated yet again—
This part of him is something Will is never going to be able to share with anyone else. That nobody would understand.
Why won’t you tell me what’s wrong with you.
“Because you wouldn’t get it.” Will somehow manages to say it without gagging.
And then, Carlton goes in for the kill.
“Oh, but Mike does?”

Summary
Mike’s voice dropped, existing only in the liminal space between them, the distance turning in on itself as Will leaned in to hear him better over the music and the racket of the city. “It’s like, you got a boyfriend and totally forgot I exist.”
“Why are you being like this?” Will whispered, pained. “I thought you’d be happy for me.”
Mike could have laughed out loud. “I am happy for you,” he said. It sounded like bullshit even to his own ears.
“I’m sorry you feel neglected or whatever–”
Will, his boyfriend, and his codependent situationship with Mike.

Summary
Mike thinks it all started the day the Byers moved into their house.
Having sold their house in Hawkins a year and a half prior and moved to California, when they came back, and the town got put in lockdown, they didn’t have a place to go.
Mike had kindly offered up their place during dinner.

The 18-month gap between s4 and s5 told from Mike's POV with minor other POV's as the story progresses. The gap has been lengthened to encapsulate more time passing. They start at 16, but by chapter 6 they're 17 1/2 with them turning 18 chapter 32/34.

Summary
Will just shakes his head as he looks over Mike’s decorations. Mike’s wall is just as nerdy as Will would expect, and it warms his heart. There’s a map of Middle Earth right above Mike’s pillow. Will rolls his eyes at the One Way sign that Mike brought from his room back home. Right out the window, which was where Will wanted to throw it. He goes to scan the rest of the wall, but something catches his eyes. Something familiar. A cold feeling surges from his head, down his spine, and to the bottom of his feet.
Why did he bring that?
Of all the things he could bring? It had to be that? THE painting. This was going to be a terrible year. Will still had yet to tell Mike the truth about that painting, and now his best friend just had to go and bring it?

Returning from vacation, Will settles into new life at NYU with Mike. Surely nothing could go wrong with sharing a small dorm with the guy you were in love with, right? A new guy shows interest in Will, which seems to irritate Mike. On top of that, old shadows creep back in with familiar faces. The first day it happened, it was quiet.
“We ended things.”
He hardly had time to process the door swinging open before Mike’s voice polluted his solitude. Will wanted to dash across the room. A part of him wanted to reach out, gently run fingertips across his skin, comforting all the ache. Another wanted to run his back-hand across his cheeks as hard as he could, a sort of retribution for his sister. God knows whatever was the breaking point wouldn't have been her fault.
OR
An emotionally repressed, touch-deprived Mike Wheeler comes to the only person he can ask for comfort.
