After Vecna had been defeated for good, life changed for the Party. The Byers moved back to Hawkins, Hopper reclaimed his title as chief of police, and Eddie graduated after getting his name cleared. Things were finally back to normal, or what they all could consider normal. Steve is trying to cope with the aftermath.

“Of course I am mad at you, Will!” Steve almost shouts. “I am really fucking mad at you.”
“Okay…but why?”
“Because he’ll know! He will read the book, like you know we all do, and he’ll fucking know, Will. Just because you couldn’t get your inspiration literally anywhere else.”
“He? Steve, what are you talking about?”
“Eddie!” Steve says. And then, his voice breaks. “He’ll know that I’m in love with him. And it’s your fault.”
or: Will writes fiction. Sure, inspired by his real life experiences, but it’s still completely fictional. So when Steve shows up at his place because he interpreted his latest doomed love story to be basically him and Eddie, furious about how Eddie will now know he’s in love with him, Will is a little taken aback. Because- just what? Steve is in love with Eddie?
