He’s not going to say jealousy. He’s not about to self-destruct like that.
But Satoru gets it, because he smiles.
“Is that what made you mad about that girl the other day?”
“No, I got pissed then because you were being an asshole.”
or, Suguru has the impression that Satoru gropes him as much as he possibly can. He thinks he has that exclusive right to Satoru’s touch, until he realizes Satoru is that handsy with everyone. For whatever reason, his stomach twists when he sees him grabbing the buckle of Shoko’s pants, or the arm of his friend from university.

“You’re staring, Suguru.” There’s a teasing lilt to his voice. Flirtatious, maybe, if it had been anyone but Satoru. And so he forces himself to laugh, to take it as the joke it was meant to be and pull his eyes away from the curl of his smile, back to the water before them.
“Guess so.” His pulse surges in his head like the tide. “Lots to see.”
Suguru and Satoru spent their childhood summers inseparable, running wild through the trees and surf of Kamakura, as close as two boys could be. But one summer changed everything and that year when Satoru went back home to Kyoto like he always did, he did not return. Suguru has not seen him since.
Five years later when Satoru reappears, he slips easy back into Suguru’s life. It's a life Suguru thought he had figured out, a life he thought would never change. But they are not boys anymore, and the responsibility of adulthood weighs heavy. Is there any way to make those perfect summers last forever? The last remnants of sunset ripple across Satoru’s chest when he takes off his shirt, casting golden highlights on his abs and scars. The jagged lines left behind from his brush with death shimmer on his throat and frighteningly close to his heart, run diagonal from his neck all the way down to his hip. His glasses clatter to the floor together with his shirt, hair glowing radiant like a halo. Suguru loves him so, so much.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is a scenic 70-mile stretch of coast with Provincetown at its northern end. Satoru arrives seeking a peaceful end and unexpectedly finds the love of his life.
