Hikaru bares his teeth. His reflection grins horribly back at him, fanged and bright.
He’s not ugly. He’s not striking, either. His mama says he has hair like caught starlight, just like his daddy. It’s unusual in a small village like theirs, but not enough to set him apart. No one cares about a towheaded country boy with fucked-up teeth and below-average height. He’s the runt of the litter, even though he makes up for it with raw physical talent at any sport of his choosing. Let his stupid ferocity speak for him. Let the sweat and the toil and the dirt convince you that he’s worth anything.
Or: Hikaru reconsiders what it means to be Yoshiki's friend when he learns that a girl from 3-A has a crush on him.

Summary
It's been three years since Mob destroyed Seasoning City and Serizawa Katsuya has moved on to a new job in the city.
Reigen, now alone again, begins to spiral. He soon falls back on bad habits, but after a brutal attack by an evil spirit leaves him torn between a dream world and reality, he realises he needs help. As his dreams bleed into his waking life, he must learn to open up, or risk losing everything, including his mind.
Unfortunately, that means letting Serizawa see the side of Reigen he thought he'd done rather well to hide.

‘Hikaru’’s face brightened. “I love ya.”
Yoshiki blushed up to his hairline, able to comprehend the words more clearly now that ‘Hikaru’ wasn’t telling him he was leavin’. “Yer…” He could hardly speak in his embarrassment.
‘Hikaru’ picked up on his nerves. He grinned. Yoshiki’s eyes immediately went to his snaggletooth; it was his favorite part of Hikaru’s smile.
“Make ya im-bare-ist?” he enunciated.

Slight canon-divergence following Chapter 26. What if ‘Hikaru’ stayed over after his beach-side confession, and what if said beach-side confession pushed Yoshiki over the edge?
