Summary
It wasn’t Quirrell and the troll, or the diary and young Tom Riddle. It wasn’t Snape or Wormtail, or even Voldemort’s return. It certainly wasn’t Umbridge or Malfoy that finally did it.
No. It was the death of Sirius Black. That was what finally broke Harry Potter, the chosen one, the boy who lived. Finding out about the prophecy and the wards around Privet Drive were the final straw.
When a mute Harry Potter goes back to Hogwarts for his sixth year and encounters the new DADA professor, will that be enough to completely shatter what’s left of him completely? And if it is, will the care of a certain potions master be the thing that puts him back together?

The clock hit 7:55, and a knock sounded on the front door. Harry practically bounced across the room, honestly overjoyed to see whoever it was on the other side. No matter what, they were taking him away from the Dursleys, and that was all that mattered. He heard Vernon’s lumbering steps entering the hall, accompanied by the sharp click of Petunia’s heels, but he raced to reach the door first. A wide grin stretched his cheeks to their limits as he threw open the door.
And the smile fell right off his face.
Shrouded in darkness, fog swirling around the hem of his long, dark robes, face as dour as ever, and hair casting cruel shadows across his face, stood Severus Snape.
