'Each of those has a reasonable explanation: coincidence; coincidence; he was picking up Isaac, who goes to my school.' Stiles ticked them off on his fingers, his mind racing for reasons his dad might believe. Somehow he doubted "I've joined a pack of werewolves and we fight crime/paranormal shit!" would win him any favours, even if it was the truth. 'The Jeep broke down and he stopped to help. I don't know about the last one. It's a free country. He can park his car where he wants as long as it's not in a tow-zone.'

They look at one another like nothing else matters, like nothing else in the whole of the universe exists but for each other — Stiles, like Derek is the ocean, and a siren's song swims in his veins; Derek, like Stiles painted the night sky and hung every glittering jewel of a star just for him — so wrapped up in one another that they spare no second thought to the curious crackle of magic that ignites in the air, catalyst to the metamorphosis sparking to life all around them, so far fallen into the depths of each other's worlds that they don't even notice that wildflowers have started to bloom all around them, a breath of spring in the dead of winter — until there is no trace of the nemeton, just a field of wildflowers left in its wake.
