Summary
Stiles gets kidnapped by hunters, again. He resents always being the damsel in distress. Except the pack doesn't come. Instead, the hunters capture Derek, but something is wrong with the Alpha. The hunters say he's gone feral, and send him in to kill Stiles. Stiles gains a loyal puppy in the body of an Alpha Werewolf.

Derek was turned feral by a witch, but he still recognizes Stiles. In fact, the wolfy part of him can't get enough of Stiles, which is excellent blackmail material. Now if only Stiles could get him to stop growling at anyone who approaches him.

Derek picks up his coffee and drains it slowly. "My place is a twenty-minute drive from here. I could show you, if you'd like," he says once he finishes. His tone is studiedly casual, but Stiles knows what a big deal it is. It's an offer to re-establish a connection with a former pack member. To invite Stiles into the new sanctuary Derek created for himself.
Stiles looks at his empty cup. He thinks of the miles he's driven. Of the motels and hotels and cheap campsites he's crashed at, and tries to keep his desperation to have something familiar, of not feeling so goddamn lonely, from his voice.
"Yeah. I'd really like that," he says, and if his heartbeat does a little swoop, Derek's too polite to mention it.

Objectively, Derek could understand – the pair was a sight to behold. Stiles and Lydia were the gems of the Hale pack. Long, graceful limbs, bronze curls and full, pouty lips. They walked around, arms linked, with an air of power and intelligence around them that commanded attention. Their confidence, witts and bodies acted like catnip to the wolves.

In the aftermath of the nogitsune, Stiles takes up knitting at the suggestion of his therapist, and is surprised to find how much it helps him — and Derek — heal.
"Here's your hat," Stiles says with a half-hearted attempt at nonchalance, opting for playful banter in the hope that it'll ease some of the tension. "I would've finished it sooner, but some asshole snuck in through my window and scared me so bad I dropped half the stitches."
He expects a smirk, a sarcastic quip, a long-suffering sigh followed by a theatrical eye-roll in response. What he doesn't expect is the vulnerable quiver in Derek's lower lip as he fixes Stiles with a stunned expression, eyebrows pulled together in a way that makes Stiles's heart physically clench inside his chest, and says, in the softest voice Stiles has ever heard, "You made this for me?"
The following evening, Derek shows up wearing the hat Stiles made him, a tightly-wound ball of yarn and a set of knitting needles clutched in his hands as he tentatively holds them out to Stiles like a peace offering, and says, "Teach me?"

Derek’s face breaks into a full fledged smile and the impact of that expression after not seeing it for months steals the air from Stiles’s lungs. He’s careful to keep his heart steady as he returns the smile. It’s taken him years to perfect keeping calm around Derek Hale and Stiles still thinks he fails at it 62% of the time. Derek stands up and Stiles forgets to mask everything about his reaction when he sees Derek in a tan Beacon Hills PD uniform for the first time.

The wolf whines and leans into the caress and Stiles can feel his eyes fill. He stands there, crying with the wolf leaning into his legs and his hand fisted in the wolf’s fur.

Now changed to be clear that this is a (Hale) pack-centric series—and while Sterek does take center focus in a lot of it, it is not solely a Sterek-centric series. The previous title reflected the first 6 short fics, as those were Sterek-centric, but the bulk of the series is about pack and what that means to each of the characters. Since the Hale pack symbol/tattoo is important, I thought this new title captured the focus of the series much better.*
