“Oh,” Klavier said. He looked taken aback. “I didn’t know you had another job,” he said.
“Yeah, well you had two jobs first,” he said, too loudly. He had an even harder time controlling his volume when Klavier was involved. “Money’s tight at Mr. Wright’s place. I’m sure you’ve heard the gossip.”
“I don’t listen to gossip, generally,” Klavier said. “Not from sources with ill intentions toward people I care about.”
The words held more weight under the circumstances. Apollo could see it in Klavier’s eyes, the heaviness, the burden of carrying the past around, of having it chained to his throat, tight enough to strangle.
Apollo didn’t know what to say, but words came out of his mouth anyway.
“You should get some sleep, Prosecutor Gavin.”

Summary
After the events of AA:DD, Athena asks Simon to instruct her in Japanese swordplay in order to feel closer to her mother. However, Simon himself is hesitant to take up the blade again in the wake of the events of seven years ago.
With memories of Metis Cykes guiding their actions, they confront the pain of their shared past in an attempt to begin the healing process. Additionally, they have to come to terms with the fact that the respective other is not the person they once knew anymore...
There will be one skippable (because deliberately left un-plotty) E-rated chapter shortly before the end, which will be warned for separately in an author's note. The overall rating is primarily for one short scene fairly far in, which is integral to the plot and which I would rather not separately warn for; otherwise, this is a solid T.
