Summary
The funny thing is, no one really expresses much surprise when he tells them of his plans.
Some of them raise their eyebrows. Some of them go, ‘Oh! Wow!’ with too much enthusiasm. Some of them simply nod, say, ‘It’s long overdue, Hawks-san’, then bow when they bid their goodbyes before walking off in opposite directions.
He had expected more of a reaction, truth be told. He had thought, perhaps, that they’d kick up a protest. That perhaps they would say, “We need you around, Hawks. Your holiday can wait.”
Really, he thought there would be more resistance. A day off, or so much as a half-day even, had been a challenge before.
Then again, rationally speaking, it does make sense. A war, a medal of valour, and an entire lifetime unlived later, he isn’t the same person anymore.
When all is said and done, Hawks travels the length of the entire country from south to north.

A small sigh leaves the man, and he tucks Varka’s head more firmly against his chest. “I’m going to start running now. Please hold on.”
Flins saves Varka's life and for some reason decides this means they should work together.
