And then honking interrupts their conversation, as Rei’s brain seems to reboot and his attention snaps back to the road, prompting him to accelerate away from the green light he had been stationary at. “Sorry,” He starts, “Give me a moment while I find a parking spot.”
Or, a seemingly unimportant work conversation stirs up thoughts within Akai about his identity, that he had suppressed for longer than he can remember.

Summary
“You know,” Rei finds himself saying, words tight, clipped, “I spent so long hating you. Years. So sure you were a murderer – morally, if not literally. Even now, it’s so easy to be cruel to you, to expect you to try to atone for something I’ll never accept. And even so it was so easy – so easy – to walk into a building with you behind me, rifle in your hands. Why is that, FBI?”
Akai stares back at him, drawing his fingers down Rei’s cheek and letting his hand fall to rest his knuckles on Rei’s knee. “Do you really have to ask me that?"

“Because I wanted you to live, I was willing to do what seemed necessary. Yours is a hard and icy row to hoe, Furuya-kun. You have no domestic support. You have no one in the Syndicate to trust. It didn’t seem possible for you to hold out for much longer. I don’t mind being useful. I certainly don’t mind hardship.”
“How altruistic,” snaps Rei, tone dripping with condescension.
Akai’s smile is cutting, a sharp slice. “Hardly that. I wouldn’t have done it for anyone. Not for Kir. Not for Sherry. I would have helped them. But not served them.”

Summary
Blood.
That’s the first thing that hits Rei when he steps through the door. The intense smell of blood- horribly familiar, and yet out of place. He’s never killed a soul in his apartment. The coppery scent of fresh blood shouldn’t be filling the air.
And yet, it’s not the blood that draws his attention the most.
Feathered wings unfurl in front of him. A pure untainted white, if not for the one wing clawed an ugly red.
And one Akai Shuuichi looks up at him with a tired smile.
The supernatural has never been Rei's area of expertise. He can't say he's fond of Akai dragging him into it.

“I do wish Furuya-kun used a poison with an easy antidote. Arsenic, perhaps. I can’t drink cyanide.”
Conan stares. “But you’d drink arsenic?”
“It is tea that Furuya-kun brewed for me,” Shuuichi points out reasonably. “It’s quite unfortunate to pour it down the drain. But I suppose I have to.”
“Because it’s not arsenic,” Conan says, voice a little blank.
“Because it’s not arsenic,” Shuuichi says with a nod.
Furuya has attempted to murder Shuuichi quite a few times. That may be part of the reason why Shuuichi doesn’t quite care.

Shuuichi politely doesn’t mention that they’re currently flying over a dark ocean, and will be for a while yet. He can be considerate- he has no clue why Jodie always claims he can’t be. He’s even been reading books on conversational skills lately, to help cement his cover as the friendlier Okiya.
Express interest in the topics your conversational partner brings up, suggested one book he read the other day, and so Shuuichi decides to put the tip into action.
“So, what kind of death do you have planned for me then?”
“You-” sputters Furuya, looking utterly flummoxed. “What the hell are you saying?!”

I could read Akai (unknowingly) waxing internal poetic about Rei all day, ngl
Akai being oblivious to his own feelings long after basically everyone else is *chef’s kiss*
