    Summary

Falling ill is always tough. Pantalone felt that a little longer and he would burn alive from the temperature of his own body, his head would split from the pain, and the walls would crush him under their weight. He looked carefully at the stranger who had come to his aid—it was the first time he saw him. But why did his red eyes seem so familiar?

    Summary

“What time do you think it is?” Pantalone asks gently. “Take a guess.”

He steps in between Dottore's legs, cradles his head in both hands and tilts it up, up, up to face him.

“Late,” Dottore mutters. His breathing is dangerously uneven, erratic, hitching and lodging in his throat like his body’s forgotten how it all works.

    “It certainly is.”

    Summary

“You know, Doctor, I’m accustomed to your quirks but you stare a little too…intensely at times like this.”

Dottore cradled the banker’s jaw, the pads of his fingertips brushing across the jut of his cheekbone. He drew up slowly, tracing the structure of his brow line with calloused and scarred fingers.

    “Hmm?” He mumbled out, distracted.

Pantalone’s eyes glittered in his amusement like amethyst. There were myriads of violet, turbulent as the storms and yet so fitting in contrast with his natural elegance. It wasn’t a single colour, but a spectrum of indigos and violet, with specks of gold.

    Summary

“Make a contract with me, Zandik.”

He paused in his work, raising his head from the ruin guard components he was fiddling with. It was rare for Pantalone to use that name. He almost forgot the other knew it. He stood by his workbench, the cloak bundled around his shoulders. There was a peculiar expression on his ambivalent face.

“When I’m gone, I need you to live on for the both of us.”

    Summary

There’s a simple deal between them, and it benefits them both.
Their lives are stressful, yet there are few ways to release everything they bottle up. They can’t show emotions in public, can’t show weakness, can’t break the image. They can’t express their frustrations on those who are to blame for their failures — it’s often themselves — and it only makes sense for them to make a deal.
They hurt each other, and it motivates them to go further every time. Pantalone’s words cut into Dottore’s soul, leaving wounds he knows won’t heal for a while. Pantalone knows what to say, and thrives on the pain it brings the Doctor. Dottore doesn’t stop him. It’s in the deal. He takes it out on the Regrator when he can’t keep it inside anymore, leaving scratches and bruises on the banker’s sensitive skin.
Over and over. It’s their unique way to deal with stress, and it satisfies them both.
