Summary
Eddie—gulps, looking at him, because Buck doesn’t—he doesn’t look bothered, but he doesn’t look like he’s going to get up and finish the job, either. They’re at a standstill. The air in the room feels less like pops of static and more like a heavy cover of humidity. Their eyes won’t meet.
“Uh,” Eddie manages, pointing to the door. Buck’s eyes are still somewhere past Eddie. “We should get back out there, huh?”
“Yeah,” Buck says.
…or, Buck and Eddie almost kiss. Things go about as well as you would expect them to go.

Summary
“You know,” Maddie says, waving a hand in a how silly! gesture before Buck can get the word out. “The competition.”
Eddie redirects his gaze to Maddie. “Competition?”
He could drop his glass on the concrete. Or yell fire! convincingly enough to buy him enough time to run. He could make himself throw up, or pretend to faint, or just make a break for his truck and drive it directly into the ocean.

Summary
It’s been a week since Eddie told him he was looking for houses in El Paso. A week since Buck realised he’s going to be left behind again, that his life is going to be upended like it has never before. A week since Buck sat on his best friend’s couch and realised he was in love with the man at the worst possible moment.
And now, unlike four years ago, he sees the bullet coming. And no, he’s not going through that again. In a split second, he shields Eddie’s body with his own, clutching the blue collars of his uniform.
It’s gonna suck, it’s gonna be painful, but this way, he won’t have to see the love of his life walk away from him in the airport. And that makes it worth it.
But. He can’t die without telling Eddie how he feels.
So he does. “I love you,” he says and the bullet pierces his back, the pain blinding and dizzying.
Eddie’s eyes widen, there’s a splash of blood on his face, and that’s all Buck sees before his vision blackens.
Or
Buck confesses his feelings for Eddie right before almost dying again, and then, because he's incapable of not being an anxious, oblivious mess, he tries to avoid Eddie by pretending to be asleep anytime Eddie visits. Oh, and Chris comes home.

Summary
“Okay, we’ve tried making peace with him, the amulet, incense, salt bath. What else breaks a curse?” Buck says, mostly talking to himself as he paces around. “Come on, think, think, think. Oh, oh, there is the classic. True love’s kiss.”
“I told you I’m not kissing you until the boils go away,” Tommy says, yawning.
And suddenly, this whole thing stops being funny.
First off, it’s…bold to think that he’s Buck’s true love. Especially when he won’t kiss him because of some boils on his face. Mind you, Buck could have thousand more boils on his face and Tommy would still be the uglier one.
Whatever. Eddie breaths. Unclenches his fists. It’s fine. They’re dating. They’re dating and it’s totally, completely, fine.

Summary
It’s just - it’s too much, and not enough, and Eddie isn’t sure if he’s allowed to want more than this, but he does anyway. He wants everything with Buck.
(Or, five times Eddie doesn’t mean to kiss Buck, and the one time he does.)
