Summary
Soap is so good, so capable, one of the best soldiers Ghost has ever served with, but he's also never been in a situation like this. Never had to fight through the pain and exhaustion with the knife of betrayal still lodged in your back and death looming over your shoulder. Never had to claw his way out of the grave only for fate to kick him in the teeth once he’d reached the top.
You left him.
A Shadow rounds the corner. Ghost’s blade is already in his throat before the man registers the movement. He eases the body down into the mud, wipes the knife on a soaked jacket. Efficient. Silent. Necessary.
But he lingers a second longer than he should, watching the blood pool on the asphalt. Remembering how Soap’s blood mixed with the rain.
You failed him.-or- Soap is injured and alone in Las Almas, and Ghost is silently crumbling.

Soap is dead on his feet.
He’s doing a passable job hiding it, but Ghost can tell. Maybe it’s because he knows exactly what Soap’s gone through in the past week, and maybe it’s because he’s been around him long enough to see through his false bravado, but Soap is struggling.
So when Ghost opens the door to the hotel room Laswell booked for them and sees only one bed, he only cringes a little.-or- There's only one bed, and Ghost and Soap get the cuddle they've been needing.
