And as lovely as Robin-chan is, she cannot possibly be your type.” Zoro had phrased it in a way hinting at unrequited love, which means Hiyori’s out too – that woman was practically throwing herself at him every time they were in the same room. “Oh, what was that pink-haired darling’s name? Perona, no? She–”
“Cook,” Zoro deadpans, eye narrowed. “If you want to guess sometime this century, you need to stop listing women.”

In which Sanji gets captured by pirate hunters, Zoro is in the right place at the right time, and one thing leads to another. You know how it is.

They shot the world in her eye, and Sanji knew they wouldn’t have come out unscathed. He’s asking Zoro if he’s still hungry, even with all his wounds, even with all the scars he’s going to come out with. He’s asking him if he’ll ever be full.
(Or: Hunger yawns wide. Sanji learns to accept it)

Summary
Sanji can barely see, can only feel Zoro brushing his cheek with his hand, uncharacteristically gentle. He never knew Zoro could ever be this...soft. Tender. All the pain must’ve made him hallucinate.
Sanji closes his eyes as the warmth of Zoro’s hand soothes him, and lets the darkness overtake him once more.

Summary
Laurent may have figured out he was in love a little earlier, but the process wasn’t easy. It went a little something like this.
(Or: a character study through cases, only it's never really about the cases at all. )
This is a companion piece to Like the Waters I Cannot Drink through the eyes of Laurent, unpacking some moments leading up to the events in that story that went over Makoto’s head. Please read that one first, it sets up the cases revisited here! This is a slightly darker/more intense take on the mutual pining— putting the burn in slow burn— and not as much of a romcom as the first story, but thanks to that one you already know they figure it out in the end.
