    Summary

After Ronova’s defeat, things should have gotten better.

That was what Mitya had believed, until the nightmares returned, tormenting him without mercy and leaving him unable to sleep or find peace after the countless deaths Death had inflicted upon him for being deemed a potential threat to the Heavenly Principles.

In an attempt to keep himself from being consumed by the torment, Mitya abandoned chaos and became the very order he had always sought to escape, afraid that embracing it would mean giving up the joy of living.

His transformation did not go unnoticed by the man who lived alongside order and had been tasked with containing chaos in his stead. From a distance, Valeriy had always kept watch over Mitya, respecting his boundaries while observing the anomaly he had become.

Until the day when everything finally reached its breaking point.

Set after Snezhnaya's AQ Act VI, chaos and order attempt to restore the balance between them.

    Summary

Mitya slowly opens his eyes, mouth dragged open by a large yawn. He blinks and between his eyelids, Valeriy’s stern expression comes into focus.

Eyes narrowed and half-obfuscated by his dark bangs, Valeriy blinks back at him. It’s Valeriy’s only acknowledgement that Mitya is awake.

“Have you been watching me sleep, Sarge?” Mitya smiles through another yawn, raising his hand until he covers his mouth in practiced politeness. His scarf follows suit, mimicking the gesture and covering both his hand and his mouth with large finger-like tassels.

Valeriy doesn’t react to the question or the misapplied title.

“I’ll take that as a ‘yes,’” Mitya says, on the off-chance that it will coax some sort of reaction out from Valeriy’s steely exterior.

    It doesn’t.

At their third show together at the Korolevskiy Theatre, Mitya realizes that these are more like dates than any actual date he’s been on in his life.

    Summary

“Mitya watches him with a certain softness in his eyes, something tender erupts deep within him and he’s overcome with warmth. Underneath the dim lights of the stage, his fingers twitch, and all he wants to do is reach out. Be next to the man he has silently devoted himself to over the years, maybe even brush a few of those unruly purple strands behind his ear-

Yet he cant, he cant move, he cant blink-

    He cant

    He cant-

He can’t believe his eyes, Valeriy is no longer breathing. The illusion is no longer there, and the serene expression he wears is all that's left of him, what's left of a man who has lost to unbridled exhaustion and now has to pay the price.”

-Mitya gets nightmares after the events following in the theater (only one instance is really stated though, the rest is implied)-

    Summary

To think, he once saw himself as above the complex mishmash of socialization and the human psyche. Valeriy had once viewed his own simplicity as a point of pride. But here he sits now, just as filled with complexities and terribly selfish, terribly human flaws. All because of that pale, princely thing sitting in front of him.

How you've made a fool out of me, Mister Mitya.

After the incident with the theater's leylines, Mitya isn't holding up too well. But he keeps his cards close to his chest, all too set on enduring the pain alone for fear of killing those he cares about once more.

Valeriy is not happy with this.
