Rampart lifted his hand to tease the dark brown locks of Hunter’s hair between two fingers gently, not bothering to answer. Crosshair’s eyes narrowed again irritably but kept silent. Sometimes the rules of the game didn’t need to be spoken, and he could wait him out. Finally Rampart stood with a soft sigh and then sharp eyes back at Crosshair.
Their eyes met. A small smile flickered in the corner of Rampart’s mouth, and suddenly it was all too damned clear. No, Rampart wouldn’t be the one hurting Hunter.
He would.
Vice Admiral Rampart decides to test Crosshair’s allegiance and loyalty to the Empire using a newly captured Hunter as the tool. A conflicted Crosshair discovers his dedication isn’t quite as strong as he thought it was, but do they have a choice?

“And why don’t you want me to?” Hunter said finally and he knew he shouldn’t have that snarl in his voice but he couldn’t help himself. “Dedication to *him?* I thought you didn’t bow to anyone, or was that just the thing you told me?”
There was a small tired smile at that, a softness in Crosshair’s eyes that flickered there just for a moment before it was overcome by the sniper’s usual mocking expression.
“What’s the matter, Hunter?” he purred. “Jealous?”
Of course he was but there was absolutely no need to admit it.

When Hunter has to go undercover at an erotic party, he is surprised and unhappy to discover that his ex-lover, Crosshair, is also present and apparently willingly playing a role with his new commanding officer.

Crosshair volunteers for the role but finds he has a lot to learn outside of the casual poly set up he usually experiences with the Batch. A concerned Echo, still fresh to the squad, takes on the task to guide them through it and ends up with more involvement than he bargained for
