On Christmas Eve, a battered antique postcard arrived in Barry’s mailbox. The message on the back was hastily scrawled, at odds with the festive ice skating illustration on the front. Smudged charcoal spelled out a pair of unfamiliar coordinates, a message calling in an unspecified favor, and a time: just before midnight, December 24, 1863.
Beneath that was a fingerprint, as familiar to Barry as the dead man it belonged to.
