Summary
She doesn’t know what she does, but she remembers how that soft emptiness around her neck turned into a hollow feeling in her gut. How that feeling of safety that she gets from knowing she always has a place to return to, to belong, turns grey around the edges because her freedom is in the hands of someone else.
And, in the back of her mind, she knows that Beck would get her another key, would just shake his head fondly and demand a kiss in payment before giving her a key he probably bought as back-up just in case she ever did lose it. But here? Now? All she feels is panic tearing through her stomach, making her hands shake because her Dad has the key to her happiness, the key to Beck.
