He notices the silence immediately. The familiar background buzz of heartbeats, of breathing, of the conversation of upstairs tenants— gone. Not even ringing in his ears.
Complete, terrifying silence.
For a moment, he just sits there. Like if he stays still enough, everything will click back into place. Car horns will return, Foggy’s jokes, Karen’s laughter.
But it doesn’t return.
