    Started from these two posts on Tumblr and a conversation with my enabler:

     

    I now am probably going to be writing a world where Peggy and Steve are the power couple of the 1940s, Bucky either didn’t fall from the train or was discovered by the SSR, and it’s a happy peppy OT3 kicking ass, taking no one’s shit, and founding SHIELD.

     

    Oh man, but Peggy works in the SSR office, and gets all this misogynistic bullshit, and then Steve finds out about it, and comes in, and everyone’s terrified of him, so they let Peggy answer the phone one day, but send three men on the same mission, and they all turn up unconscious in a dumpster while she’s back at her desk filing her nails with the object sitting in front of her, and Steve’s just like “Look at my badass wife, you’d better respect her.”

    He was a teammate, a genius, and a friend. He was terribly mature for his age. Tony was Iron Man, not Iron Boy.

    Despite everything, there still stood an age difference of ten or seventy-six years, depending on your calculation.

    But his heart was telling him not to listen.

    'This may surprise you, but I didn't actually run into many kids in need of saving in the middle of Hydra bases,' Steve hisses at him.

    'Just be you,' Natasha tells him. 'Kids like you.'

    'Kids like Hawkeye,' Steve objects.

    'Kids like to laugh at me when I juggle knives or shoot things like a badass,' Clint grins at him. 'They think you'll keep them safe.'

    Steve does not feel trained for this.

     

    After breaking into, and destroying, an AIM base, the Avengers find a little boy.

    They move like magnets, pushing and pulling as they tear each other apart, discovering and exploring until they are a natural disaster on the brink of destruction, and then, like a calm before a storm, they begin to understand, and as they discover themselves, they learn how to be catastrophic together.

    Or, Steve and Tony are absolutely wretched at being secret boyfriends, so they learn how to be friends, and, somehow, they trip into love, stumbling through Steve coming to terms with being gay, Tony trying to hide his twisted life, and too much parties, sex, and yoga that any sane person would fall apart, and yet, here they are, magnets drawn together.
