After returning from Volterra and saving Edward, nothing was the same. Bella had a lot on her mind. Now that the Volturi knew of her existence, she would have to comply and become one of them within a year if she didn't want to die. The choice was quite clear; what wasn't so clear was her role in the Cullen family. She didn't want to lose her family again, but she wasn't so sure if she could ever have a relationship with Edward again. Would she be able to forgive and act like nothing had happened? Could she forget all the suffering and stop feeling that emptiness? And most importantly, could she trust him, or them, again? While she was on the plane back to Forks with Alice and Edward, she couldn't stop thinking about all of this. She had the feeling that everyone assumed everything would be the same as before the incident on her birthday. Just because she went to rescue Edward doesn't mean she's forgotten and forgiven everything; she simply didn't want to carry his death on her conscience.
