    “Okay,” Joe says, tenderly, like it’s a caress. Those insufferable puppy eyes of his brush down Ethan’s face and up into his eyes. “Punch me.”

    Ethan hears the words — they’re whispered but clear.

    His brain understands every syllable, pieces them together and processes them correctly, assigning them their correct meaning: PUNCH. HIM.

    It’s a simple concept.

    So he doesn’t really know what goes wrong when he slams Joe into the locker and fucking kisses him.
