“Ah. That if she ever caught me on a ‘d-date’ with Keito, she’d disown me.” Utage laughed nervously, trying to cover her fluster at the word ‘date’. He wondered if she had let her sister assume they were on a date, or maybe even told her that herself. He puffed up at the idea.
“I agree. No dates with the penny-pinching jerk!”

“Your hair is gettin’ all wet.” Arthur adjusted the positioning of the hat and stepped back, cigarette still hanging between his lips. Charles reached up to touch it. It was not Arthur's usual rigid black hat, this one had a bit of a floppy brim and felt more like thick wool. Arthur’s warmth lingered underneath it, and it seeped into him.

The bed dipped as Dutch slid in next to him.
“I think I’ve earned the bed since some urchin is currently sponging out a river on my couch.” Hosea crossed his arms.
“Oh, shut up.” Dutch used his body to scoot Hosea into the wall that backed the small bed until he turned into it, arms still crossed.
