“You’d do this for anyone? If you were out here with John, or Javier, or maybe Miss Adler, would you offer your bedroll to them?”
“I reckon Miss Adler would shoot me in the face if I did” he says, deliberately avoiding to spell out the answer that Charles probably already knows, anyway. He would, always, without hesitation. But never with the intention of getting in with them.
“No one will hear a word of it” he adds, though hell, he ain’t sure anymore who he’s trying to convince that this is a good idea - Charles or himself. “I can’t just let you freeze out here.”
___While riding out together on a hunt, Charles and Arthur get lost in a snowstorm. With only one small tent and one bedroll between them, they don't have many choices on how to spent the night. Arthur admits some things to himself.

Beneath the warm scent of sunshine and grass, between the notes of its natural musk, a delicate fragrance clung to its fur. Charles couldn’t quite place it, and with another thoughtful inhale, he turned his face to follow the refreshing notes of citrus-y sweetness and stepped closer to the horse’s withers.
“You smell nice,” Charles said. Then, with another lungful of the sweet air that surrounded Arthur, he pondered the notes of the scent with a thoughtful quirk of an eyebrow. His thoughts couldn’t settle upon an answer, though, when his attention piqued back to Arthur as the man—face flushing, bashful and pretty in the dusting of pink upon his cheeks—ducked his chin to get a whiff of himself.

“Mister Smith, I mean to say,” Arthur corrected himself, palms up and out in surrender as he continued chuckling like the evil, bad, evil man he was. Charles let himself get close enough for a quick slap to Arthur’s arm with the back of his hand.

“Not in camp, I know, I know,” Arthur defended, his smile falling to something more serious as he took a moment to look at Charles properly, eye-to-eye. “I’m sorry, just hard sometimes when I’ve been gone and you look so…”
“So?” Charles asked, arms crossed on his chest and doing his best to look fed up with Arthur, regardless of how far it felt from the truth.
“Sorry, I can’t tell you in camp. Against the rules,” he said mockingly, his cocky grin returning.
