Summary
“I really thought I damned you to death with that hat,” Arthur said after a while, breathless. The confession seemed to cut through the air, like he shouted it instead of the quiet thing it really was. Charles reached across the gap between them and lifted the hat from its dusty resting place, gentle as anything, and held it, examining it. Maybe to see if it was as dangerous as Arthur implied it was, some hidden snake venom or live wire stitched into the hem.
“Give me some credit,” Charles said, looking up at Arthur with a soft smile, “I’m not dead yet.”
On a sweltering hot summer's day, Arthur and Charles run into an old enemy while (unsuccessfully) hunting. They engage in fleeing from certain doom, only to find themselves a little closer than either could have anticipated.

Summary
CanadianShack!AU, basically. Arthur gets shot while taking Eagle Flies back to his father following the attack on the Cornwall refinery, and ends up leaving with Charles for Canada. Three years on, his TB had gone into remission and he and Charles begin to explore the beautiful (and existentially terrifying) possibility of a future without imminent death.

Summary
Charles was afraid of how far he might go to see Arthur back in camp, hunched over his journal with that tiny, well-loved pencil bringing line after careful line into existence on the page. To know he was alright, even if only in the barest form. To be able to sit at that safe distance, observing and hiding his smile.
“Oh, Arthur,” Charles murmured to the snowflakes, his breath swirling away like cigar smoke. “You damned fool.”--
or, Arthur tries to lose himself, and Charles isn't having any of it.

Summary
“Charles.” Arthur broke the quiet, his eyes not abandoning the sight. “When all of this is over… Can you promise me you’ll be alright? Can you promise me to get yourself out and not look back?” He finally turned his head towards him, only to find Charles already looking back at him. Their eyes seemed to hold a silent conversation of their own, not breaking contact for even a second.
“I promise.” He whispered. A weight got lifted off of Arthur’s chest at that. He knew Charles could keep his promise, he had no doubt in trusting him on that. “But I’m getting you out, too.”
Or: Charles finds out about Arthur's condition and sets his mind on getting him out - Even though he knows it's too late.
(Set during chapter 6, title and quotes from the song "Shrike" by Hozier) -

Summary
"Arthur, what had the doctor suggested you do when he first diagnosed you with… your disease?" Charles asked, unable to bring the name of the disease to light for some reason.
"Oh," Arthur thought, taking a moment to inhale and exhale slowly before speaking again. "He told me to get somewhere warm and dry, which"— Arthur let out a wry, breathy chuckle— "is the opposite of what I did, actually. Been living in the swamps for the past few weeks and then at Beaver Hollow, it's so–"
He was cut off as he coughed a few times before sighing and ultimately dropping whatever he was saying. Charles' hope remained and he dared to speak his idea. Arthur might think he was insane, might think him to be a traitor. Hell, he might even think there was more to the idea than what Charles was planning to say— which there was.
"Arthur…" Charles fixed him with a serious expression and tone. "Arthur, let's get out of here."

Or: Charles finds out about Arthur's tuberculosis and tries to convince him to leave with some gang members.

Summary
It's been a long time since Arthur cared about anybody the way he cares about Charles. He loves the gang of course, even the members that are more annoying than most (Micah being the exception). But he doesn't remember how this courting thing works. And he wants to. Remember, that is. It feels important to him that Charles be courted, even if he is a man and even if other people would think it's wrong.
If he could also finally find a decent horse that doesn't shy at gunfire, that'd be great.

Summary
The red that Arthur would normally call beautiful - like a field of roses, or sunrises early mornings down in Strawberry - was now an ugly, jarring contrast against the Arabian's pure coat.
"Charles, what- what do I do?" His hands slipped against her skin - slick with blood.

Summary
Beneath the warm scent of sunshine and grass, between the notes of its natural musk, a delicate fragrance clung to its fur. Charles couldn’t quite place it, and with another thoughtful inhale, he turned his face to follow the refreshing notes of citrus-y sweetness and stepped closer to the horse’s withers.
“You smell nice,” Charles said. Then, with another lungful of the sweet air that surrounded Arthur, he pondered the notes of the scent with a thoughtful quirk of an eyebrow. His thoughts couldn’t settle upon an answer, though, when his attention piqued back to Arthur as the man—face flushing, bashful and pretty in the dusting of pink upon his cheeks—ducked his chin to get a whiff of himself.
--
In which Arthur finds a lilac bush to nap under, and its scent clings to him. When he takes too long bringing some of its flowers back for Mary-Beth and Tilly, they send Charles out after him. And Arthur finds he doesn't mind sharing the little slice of peace he found there with Charles.

From across the campfire, Arthur blinks up at him, bleary-eyed.
“Not good for you, that much anger,” Charles tells him, already sinking back into a brawler’s stance. “C’mon.”

Summary
Arthur swapped his rifle out for the bow, giving Indie a pat on her velvety nose before heading back towards Charles. The bison had barely moved from their spot in the valley, ambling along and nibbling at the vegetation. He stood parallel to Charles and positioned his bow, drawing back the string in preparation.
“Do you mind if I adjust your feet, Arthur?” Charles questioned, studying his form.
Arthur’s throat went dry again, and he swallowed it down for the second time in less than five minutes. “Yeah. ‘Course.” Curse Charles Smith and the things he did to Arthur Morgan’s mind.
