Mike has finally made it as an author. But writing about your own past can get complicated, especially when fans start to draw conclusions that point Mike in the direction of the person he's been writing about all along.
And living life is hard. Especially when you're doing it all on your own. But grief and love are a lot more similar than you might realise. They both tend to wake us up from the monotony of our lives.

"If you stay silent, you ache. If you speak, you lose it all. A shame, really. But it could all be over so soon. You just have to let it happen."
The hallway stretches longer and longer with each second. There is no door at the end. There is no version of this life where he wins. And that's when Will understands.
This isn't a warning. It's a choice.
Say it now, while it still belongs to you. Or let it rot inside until there's nothing left.
"Will?"
The world snaps back into place. Mike stands in front of him, brows knit with concern. His hand is hovering near Will's arm like he isn't sure if he's allowed to touch.
"Hey," Mike says quietly. "You spaced out. I've been calling your name."
Will swallows. His throat feels raw, like he's been screaming instead of standing still, the feeling of Vecna's claws wrapped around his neck.
"I'm fine," he says automatically. Mike doesn't buy it. He never does.
OR:
Will is haunted by what Vecna showed him, and by the things he's never said out loud. When Mike notices something wrong, the conversation they've been avoiding finally comes to the surface.
