Summary
“We need start before Adder,” Janosh finally said, and it seemed like even the rain was quieter now, was listening. “Much before. We need start with Janosh. Because story about Adder is story about Janosh. We need start in beginning, when Janosh was little. We start with Janosh Gilet.”
* * *
Janosh Gilet was five years old when his whole world fell apart. Then seven, eleven, eighteen. Thirty-nine. Despite all that came before, that one hurt the must.
Now, in the year of our Lord 1412, he is forty-eight. And surrounded by his friends, by candlelight and April rain, and by a rising religious revolt tearing through the city of Prague like the Inquisition's hot-glowing iron through flesh, Janosh feels like it is finally time to tell his story. A story of injustice and rebellion, of joy and suffering, of rooftops and harvest dances. Of blue eyes and golden hair, and a hand in his. Of love. Of loss.

Summary
“We need to point the way,” Žižka had said. “Make them understand that Hus's theories are the only sensible response to the church's superior power and to this whole schism that we are currently stuck in. We need to light a metaphorical and literal beacon of hope in these times. So. The plan is simple.” And then he had proceeded to lay down in great detail a plan that was as far away from simplicity as it could possibly get.

Bohemia, 1410. The Devil's Pack – once the distorted reflection of a family of misfits, now broken into shambles of strangers – comes back together for one more coup. In the midst of church reforms, three Popes claiming authority at once, and a holy war brewing up in the north, they plan to bring back order into a country governed by chaos, by carrying the torch of Jan Hus's ideas. But not only politics have changed in the seven years since the pack last came together, and as their plans fail miserably, sending both old and new enemies out for their necks, they soon find themselves entangled in questions about purpose, revenge, freedom, betrayal, and a more intimate cry for change than that of a societal revolution.

Summary
For a while, Henry stood in silence and admired her. He felt that he truly could not have been luckier. Just to be in her presence alone, to have been granted the chance to lay eyes on her. To touch and smell, and feel her even. Cautiously, of course, with his fingers covered decently by gloves, he would not want to get ahead of himself. To marvel at her unique beauty, her liveliness and elegance, the form of her long, slender body, her arms so carelessly stretched out in what seemed to be a sheer act of rebellion, her face so full and white...

Summary
Samuel opened the first page. Whether it was because he was still actually suspicious or because he simply wanted to punish him even more, Hans could not tell. “Ever since the day I was born,” Samuel began to read, slowly, stuttering, raising the book higher to seek out the faint candlelight, “I hesitate to ask my thorn: Is it just you, thorn, or the whole rose, that my loved one desires most?” He laughed again. This truly was all just a joke to him. Couldn't he see, did he truly not realise? “This is horrible!”
“Exactly.” Hans's voice was shaking too now, his teeth were chattering as if from the cold.

Summary
“This is mad. Nightmares or not, but I've never seen a man so vehemently refusing something as vital as sleep!”
“It's not like I am refusing it, it's more that …” Sam stopped himself before the words could leave his mouth, but it was too late. He seemed to understand that, too, from the surprised look Hans gave him, because his priorly angry expression turned into one of surrender. “Yes. It is sleep that is refusing me.”

Summary
When Hanush stormed into his study, Hans was reading, or so it seemed. The book lay open on the table in front of him, flickering candle light illuminating the thin, fading letters just enough against the darkness that gloomed outside. His eyes were rushing across the parchment like a swarm of wasps, hectic and fast, and just like wasps, they couldn't understand the words that they touched. His mind was wandering elsewhere, and yet this elsewhere was still too dreadful for his thoughts to acknowledge it properly. It can't be, was the only thing they brought forth occasionally. They must be wrong. How could they not? It can't be.
